Chris :
Yes, I mean the theory that I like to adopt is up to the age of perhaps 7 or 8 the conscious mind is almost non-existent and its up until that age that the belief systems are created and as you rightly say it’s the very age that it becomes implanted.
I suppose what he’s saying is that because of the belief systems, that is almost when they’re hypnotised as opposed to brain washed and so he tries to get it out of their system to change that pattern.
Bryan :
Yes well there’s nothing wrong with that, that’s one way of looking at it but I question they’ve been hypnotised in the first place.
You see one of the things we teach is, well there are 10 different ways people will adopt a behaviour pattern and unless you understand what the prime cause of that behaviour pattern is you don’t know how to treat it so what you have to determine is what mechanism is being used to adopt a particular belief system.
Now, language occurs pretty much from 12 months to 3 and if you are, as in the case of Malaysia, born into a major multicultural society in which there are three major languages you can speak all of them because without effort you don’t have to learn them because they are exposed at the crucial time at between about 18 or 12 months to about 5 where the brain is open to a language acquisition.
I have a friend in Malaysia who speaks 5 languages quite fluently.
Chris :
What is the biggest change you have seen in the 60 years you’ve been involved in it ?
Bryan :
First of all it has been shown to be probably the most cost-effective way to treat a variety of ailments.
I have seen patients who spent 10 years in psychoanalysis for instance which can’t be very cost effective to the powers that be whereas we habitually see people 3 to 5 visits and sometimes 1 or 2 but on an average between 3 to 5 and I would caution anyone to worry about the severity of the symptom because that sometimes puts people off.
Some people have just as much distress from a symptom that wouldn’t bother you or me but for them it is something that needs to be treated, excessive compulsive for instance, manifestation. These things are all treatable on the terms of the attitude the person has to themselves and self-respect.
Chris :
Do you think it is necessary to put somebody into trance to be able to access the subconscious ?
Bryan :
No I don’t think it is necessary and there are methods that stuff can be recovered, we do work with what they call the 2 chair work where you can manifest some sort of communication with a person that’s not actually there.
That’s one system that springs to mind.
There are plenty of ways that you can access communication.
One of the things we teach is there’s no place in the brain called the subconscious, it’s a continuum.
For instance, there’s no way into the subconscious other than through the consciousness, it’s a continuum.
People say ‘it’s in my subconscious’ but if you can recall something then it’s still there.
What is difficult is the art of recalling it not the memory.
The memory is there all the time and it’s embodied, even the birth trauma for instance.
So what’s necessary is to determine the right approach to alleviate the symptoms.
Chris :
That’s a new philosophy for me.
I’ve always worked from the basis there’s a conscious mind and a subconscious mind and a sort of gatekeeper between them.
Bryan :
That’s what Freud was on about.
Chris :
So are you saying there’s no barrier between the conscious mind and subconscious ?
