Bryan Perry. 88 year old Grandfather of Australian Hypnotherapy
Chris :
Welcome Bryan and firstly thank you for being on the show this morning. Can you just tell us a bit about your background and how you’ve got where you are and how you’ve become the grandfather of hypnotherapy.
Bryan :
I got into hypnotherapy in 1952 without any thought of becoming a hypnotherapist.
I got involved with a group of medicos of all specialities and we were really just testing to see what could be done with hypnosis.
We could see the power of stage hypnosis and went on with the thought that if people could change their behaviour on stage then they could change their behaviour with hypnosis long term if it was done properly.
In those days there was little known about hypnotherapy.
I think there was only 13 hypnotists in the whole of Australia in 1952 but our group had these Friday night meetings where we just tried what could be done with hypnosis and doctors – one surgeon, one physician and two GP’s used to send patients to see if we could help them with hypnosis.
So that’s where it all began in 1952.
